CEBU CITY, Cebu (PIA) – Thirty residents of Barangay Cantao-an, City of Naga availed of the free services during the ‘Barangayan sa Bagong Pilipinas on La Niña Alert’ held on Sept. 20 at the barangay’s Multi-Purpose Building.

Of the total, 24 beneficiaries availed of the free haircut from the Civil Military Operations Unit (CMOU) Central of the Philippine Navy while six senior citizens availed of the flu vaccination administered by the City Health of Naga City.

Corazon P. Ubas, 84, from Purok 6 Balisong, said she was grateful for the free services brought by the government during the Barangayan. Her husband, Sanso Ubas, 85, also availed of the free haircut and flu vaccination.

“Nalipay ko og mapasamalaton kaayo nga adunay mga libreng serbisyo ania karon dinhi sa among lugar,” said Corazon.

(I am so happy and grateful that these free services were offered in our place.)

Over 100 participants composed of barangay captains, purok presidents of the 28 barangays in the city, city government officials, Barangay Health Workers (BHW), and Brgy. Cantao-an officials attended the event.

This was the first ‘Barangayan sa Bagong Pilipinas’ conducted in Region 7 initiated by the Philippine Information Agency.

Barangay Cantao-an was identified as the venue since the area is prone to landslides.

Officials from the Department of Health and PAGASA also gave briefings on the impact of La Niña in their area and how to prevent health hazards during the rainy season. (HFG/PIA7)
