SAN JOSE, Occidental Mindoro (PIA) – The beneficiaries from the three farmers’ cooperative and associations (FCAs) underwent a capability-building activity conducted recently by the Department of Agriculture – Special Area for Agricultural Development (DA-SAAD) Mimaropa in the island municipality of Looc.
Around 75 participants from the Samahan ng Magsasaka ng Kanluran, Samahan ng Magsasaka ng Balikyas, and Samahan ng Magsasaka ng Ambil were taught on the fundamentals of organizational management, and basics of records-keeping spearheaded by DA Mimaropa Institutional Development Unit, and Research Division.
“Natutuwa ako [dahil] parang mga accountant kami sa paggawa ng mga [financial] statement [dahil noon,] hindi malinaw ang lahat. Ito ay nagbibigay ng transparency at hindi na kami nagtatanong kung saan napupunta ang mga pondo ng asosasyon, (I am happy because we were like accountants while making financial statement because the procedure was not clear to us before. Records-keeping gives transparency and we do not need to wonder where our funds go to), shared Lorna O. Insigne, member of Samahan ng Magsasaka ng Ambil.
DA-SAAD MIMAROPA Regional Lead Marissa DV Vargas highlighted the importance of learning organizational management as it helps in strengthening the FCAs. Vargas also encouraged the beneficiaries to take good care of the projects awarded to them.
The FCAs are recipients of rice, corn, and coconut production project from the DA-SAAD Program Mimaropa. The program focuses on poverty alleviation, and food security targeting marginalized farmers and fisherfolks.
