Benguet all set to host CARAA 2025

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet (PIA) — It’s all systems go for the largest sports event in the Cordillera region.

The provincial government of Benguet and the Department of Education-Cordillera assured their readiness to host the Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association Regional Meet (CARAA)  set on  February 23 to 28, 2025 in  the province.

“We are 100 percent ready for the CARAA 2025,” Governor Melchor Diclas  said during the Kapihan media forum where the provincial government and the DepEd-CAR presented their  plans and preparations for the CARAA.

He said they are ready to welcome the more than 6,000 delegates composed of student-athletes, coaches, trainers, school officials and other guests from the six provinces and two cities in the Cordillera region, and they will  make sure that  the contingents  will have  fun and memorable experience in Benguet.

“This is the first time in 10 years that we are again hosting the CARAA and we are making sure to present the best of Benguet with the support of the DepEd-CAR, the 13 municipalities, Congressman Eric Go Yap and the people of the province. From our hosting, our facilities, and the whole experience in Benguet, we are making sure that it will be fun and memorable one for all the delegates and the public, too,” he said.

DepEd-CAR Regional Director Estela Carino ascertained that billeting schools, playing venues and other facilities and technical needs are being addressed to ensure a smooth conduct of the CARAA.

The different municipal government in Benguet will be hosting the eight provinces and cities in their respective schools in La Trinidad and in Baguio City.

Logistics, security and other aspects are also being addressed by the different working committees the CARAA with the support of the local government units and the other line agencies and law enforcement agencies.

The CARAA 2025 will formally open on Sunday, February 23, with the opening parade to be led by Benguet officials and  DepEd-CAR family,   from the Benguet State University oval to the Benguet Sports Complex, the main playing venue of the regional games.

The delegates from the provinces of Abra, Apayao, Baguio City, Ifugao, Kalinga, Mountain Province and Tabuk City will be led by their respective local officials and Schools Division officials.

DepEd Secretary Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara  is the expected guest of Honor and Speaker during the opening day which is expected to be attended  by more than 10,000 individuals.

The CARAA 2025 carries the theme, “Fostering a United and Healthier Cordillera Through Sports.”

Also  joining the kapihan forum  are  municipal mayors Romeo Salda of La Trinidad, Manny Fermin of Kapangan, Armando Lauro of Tublay, Alfredo Dacumos Jr. of Sablan and Clarita Sal-ongan of Tuba.  (JDP/RMC with Clariza Osiang & Esperanza De Guzman-PIA- BSU Interns)
