LA TRINIDAD, Benguet (PIA) — The National Irrigation Administration in the Cordillera region continues to provide assistance to its beneficiaries and stakeholders in Benguet by providing more venues where they can sell their produce.
The NIA-CAR and at least eight irrigators’ associations(IAs) in the province signed a marketing agreement that will allow the IAs’ products to be sold through the Kadiwa sa NIA-CAR at its regional office in Wangal, La Trinidad.
The irrigators’ groups are namely; Taloy Sur IA of Taloy Sur, the Kalabushabel Community IA of Tadiangan and the Catlubong IA of Pobacion in the municipality of Tuba; the Abiang Purok Association for Better Living of Taba-ao, the Cayapes IA of Cayapes and the Abudick IA of Taba-ao in the municipality of Kapangan; the Federation of La Trinidad Vegetable IA of Balili in La Trinidad; and the Pabebo IA of Tublay Central in Tublay.
The NIA-CAR has been inviting local farmers in their regular Kadiwa activities but with this agreement, the IAs will display and sell their produce at least twice a month where it will be available not only to NIA employees but also to the public.
They will sell their produce such as fruits, vegetables, root crops, and other commodities during the Kadiwa sa NIA-CAR every second Thursday and last Friday of the month.
NIA-CAR Regional Manager Benito Espique, Jr said the marketing agreement is in line with the program Enhanced Partnership Against Hunger and Poverty (EPAHP) of the national government with the goal to mitigate hunger, ensure food and nutrition security, and reduce poverty in the urban and rural communities.
The convergence program with the stakeholders and project beneficiaries especially the farmers is among the priority programs of NIA Administrator Eddie Guillen.
Taloy Sur IA president Elmer Saoyao, on behalf of the IAs, expressed gratitude to the NIA-CAR for including them in the Kadiwa program which is a big help for their livelihood.
“Agyaman kami idtoy nga programa ta dakami nga babassit nga mannalon ket adda daytoy pagiyumayan mi ti lako mi. Sapay kuma ta itultuloy yu ti panagtulong kanyami nga mannalon,” Saoyao said.
