Bersamin: Gov’t upholds right to peaceful assembly

MANILA, (PIA) — Executive Secretary Lucas P. Bersamin issued a statement Monday affirming the Marcos administration’s commitment to uphold the right to peaceful assembly, a fundamental right protected by the Philippine Constitution.

His remarks come as members of the Iglesia ni Cristo gather for a significant event on January 13.

Bersamin emphasized that all government agencies are mandated to ensure this right is respected and that the assemblies, which are occurring nationwide, proceed without interference.

He called on agencies responsible for maintaining peace, traffic management, and emergency health services to be prepared to assist citizens as needed.

Walang duda ang aming paniniwala na magiging mapayapa, matiwasay at makabuluhan ang mga pagtitipon sa araw na ito,” Bersamin said, expressing confidence that Monday’s gatherings would be peaceful and meaningful.

He added that the opinions expressed during these assemblies should contribute to clarifying pressing national issues and fostering genuine unity among the populace.

Sa pagkilatis at pakikinig lamang sa lahat ng panig sa isang usapin ang siyang magdudulot ng kalinawan na ating hinahanap,” he said, underscoring the importance of inclusive dialogue in achieving clarity on national concerns.

Bersamin characterized the assemblies as an essential part of a broader national conversation aimed at reaching consensus on the challenges facing the country.

He reiterated the administration’s support for the right to assemble peacefully, encouraging citizens to engage in discussions that impact their collective future. (JCO/PIA-NCR)
