TAGUM CITY, Davao del Norte (PIA) — Beyond selling goodies, the Honesty Store opened by the Davao del Norte Provincial Police Office (DNPPO) seeks to build and fortify “honesty” among its police commissioned and non-commissioned officers.
DNPPO Provincial Headquarters, under the leadership of PCOL Alexander R. Serrano Jr., inaugurated on April 24 its first-ever Honesty Store inside its Camp along the national highway in Tagum City.
“This store is more than just a place of commerce—it is a symbol of trust and integrity within the organization,” Serrano said. “We hope it inspires everyone in the camp to live by these values, on and off duty,” Serrano added.
DNPPO said the initiative was in line with the directive of the Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief , Police General Rommel F. Marbil, “who advocates for programs that instill moral discipline and encourage self-governance among the ranks.”
The Police Honesty Store aims to provide PNP personnel a convenient space to buy and sell daily necessities, without a cashier, price tags, or surveillance. Customers are trusted to list down the items they purchase and leave the appropriate payment in a drop box, “fostering a sense of responsibility and personal accountability.”
In officiating the blessing ceremony of the DNPPO Honesty Store, Rev. Fr. Fernand L. Bagnaan expressed his full support and admiration for the project. Bagnaan appreciated the commitment of DNPPO to nurture and practice honesty, daily.
Meanwhile, DNPPO Police Relations Officer, Major Anjanette Tirador pointed out the importance of the Honesty Store open 24/7, in the absence of a canteen within the DNPPO barracks.
All sections are putting in their respective display of goods, delicacies and whatever they would like to display on sale, keeping high trust and confidence of the honesty of their police colleagues to pay the right amount, and get the right change of their money.
“It’s character enhancement, nindot nga (a nice) honesty development, aron (so that) honest pud ta pagpangalagad sa katawhan (we would also become honest in serving the public),” she told PIA XI Davao del Norte. (JMDA, PIA XI with photos and report from Davao del Norte Police Provincial Office)
