ILOILO CITY (PIA) — A comprehensive training on Community Organizing for implementers of the Special Area for Agricultural Development (SAAD) Program Phase 2 and various National Fisheries Projects was organized to strengthen technical expertise and leadership capabilities essential for implementing effective community-based interventions of the participants in the region.
Led by the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) 6, the five-day training took place at the Provincial Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Training, Development, and Product Center (PFARTDPC) in New Washington, Aklan. This was facilitated by its Regional Fisheries Training and Fisherfolk Coordination Division (RFTFCD).
The training included interactive lectures, workshops, team-building exercises, role-playing, and sharing of best practices.
The program was designed to equip participants with advanced community organizing strategies, focusing on enhancing their ability to mobilize and support fisherfolk organizations in the region.
Richard E. Cordero, Officer-in-Charge of the Provincial Fisheries Office of Aklan, underscored the importance of fostering strong governance and management within fisherfolk organizations. He emphasized the critical role of skilled leadership and efficient workforce development in achieving BFAR’s mission.
For the training, Jessica C. Esmao, chief of the RFTFCD, tackled the key aspects of community organizing including facilitation techniques, leadership development, conflict management, and the proper implementation of social preparation activities at the identified SAAD sites.
