BFAR XI secures P63-million quick response fund to aid calamity-affected fisherfolks

DAVAO CITY — The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Region XI recently secured a Quick Response Fund (QRF) worth P63.046 million to support fisherfolks affected by the shear line and trough of a low-pressure area (LPA).

The QRF under the Rehabilitation and Recovery Program of the Department of Agriculture (DA), is intended particularly for fisherfolks from the provinces of Davao de Oro, Davao del Norte and Davao Oriental.

In a turnover ceremony on December 23, BFAR XI regional director Relly Garcia received the amount in check from DA XI regional executive director Macario Gonzaga.

“This shall be utilized to assist the fishing communities in rehabilitating and recovering their livelihoods and ensuring the sustainability of the region’s fisheries sector,” BFAR XI stated on a social media post.

According to BFAR XI, the QRF is specifically designed for the provision of fishing gears and motorized boats, distribution of fingerlings, particularly tilapia, hito, kitang, crablets and bangus fry and fingerlings and provision of feeds and other aquaculture inputs.
