CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro (PIA) — The inauguration of the ₱35 million regional office of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) MIMAROPA is seen to better serve the needs of the fisherfolk in the region.
This after the newly completed facility, located in Sapul, Calapan City, was inaugurated on March 20, with BFAR national director Elizer Salilig as the guest of honor.
In hopes of bolstering fisheries development and management in the MIMAROPA region, the new building will serve as the central hub for BFAR’s programs, including fisheries research, policy implementation and technical support for fisherfolk and aquaculture operators across Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan.
BFAR MIMAROPA Regional Director Roberto Abrera thanked those who made the huge milestone for the fishery sector in the region, citing that the facility will be instrumental in serving the fisherfolk across the region.
“Maraming salamat po sa lahat ng naging katuwang ng BFAR upang maipatayo ang bagong gusaling [ito]. Naniniwala kami dito na sa pamamagitan ng makabagong pasilidad na ito ay higit naming mapagsisilbihan ang mga mamamayan,” said Abrera.
Meanwhile, Salilig sees the potential of the region, with plans of expanding the agency’s programs on aquaculture production, fishery law enforcement and climate change adaptation measures to safeguard the industry against environmental and economic challenges.
BFAR officials are also grateful to the family of Bongabong mayor Elegio Malaluan for donating the lot which houses the new regional officials.
Other local government officials as well as officials from the national government agencies, through its regional offices, such as the National Irrigation Administration, Philippine Statistics Authority, Philippine Coast Guard and Philippine Information Agency, among others were also in attendance during the event.
