BFP-Baguio appeals to the public to commit for fire safety

The BFP Baguio recognizes barangays that have reported zero fire incidence from 2020 to 2024.

BAGUIO CITY (PIA) – The Baguio City Fire Station appeals to the public to commit to making fire safety a part of their daily lives.

Fire Safety Enforcement Section Chief SFO4 Raul Doctolero said this can start with simple steps  such as unplugging unused appliances, avoiding overloading electrical outlets and ensuring that fire extinguishers are accessible at home and in the workplace.

“Always remember sa pag-iwas sa sunod, hindi ka nag-iisa. Let us continue working together to keep our city safe,” Doctolero said.

Towards ensuring  fire safety to prevent  occurrence of fire and protect people and properties, Doctolero shared that  the BFP Baguio issued in 2024 a total of  22,588 fire safety inspection certificates for business and occupancy permits and 547 fire safety evaluation clearances  to ensure that  businesses, establishments, and residences comply with the fire safety standards.

The strict enforcement of the Fire Code resulted in the collection of P20,951,284.95, which was used in improving firefighting capabilities, upgrading equipment, and enhancing safety programs, he reported.

Continuing to strengthen public awareness, the BFP Baguio conducted fire drills and fire safety seminars in both private and government establishments, enforcing the importance of preparedness in preventing disasters.

Meanwhile, City Fire Marshal FSuperintendent Marisol Odiver and  city officials recognized  barangays  in  the city that have reported zero fire incidence from 2020 to 2024.

These are  Alfonso Tabora, Bayan Park, City Camp Central, City Camp Proper, DPS Compound, East Modern Site, Imelda R. Marcos (La Salle), Lower Dagsian, Malcolm Square, North Central Aurora Hill, Palma Urbano (Cariño-Palma), Pinsao Pilot Project, Rizal Monument Area, San Roque Village, South Central Aurora Hill, Sta. Escolastica, Sto. Tomas School Area, Scout Barrio, Slaughterhouse Area (Sto. Niño, Slaughter), West Modern Site, Upper Magsaysay, and Upper Rock Quarry.

Also recognized are the barangays that actively participated in BFP training activities to promote fire safety awareness, and  Community Fire Auxiliary Group, namely;  Atok Trail, Kias, Liwanag-Loakan, City Camp Central, City Camp Proper, City Camp Gabriela Silang, Camdas, Irisan, Sto. Tomas Proper, Dontogan, Asin, San Antonio Village, and Engineer’s Hill.

The BFP invites the public to join the month-long observance of Fire Prevention Month. Lined up activities  include fire safety engagement with the government and private sectors from March 1 to 31, Community Relations Week on March 10-16, Fun Run on March 15, Oplan Ligtas na Pamayanan on the road on March 16-21, and fire square roadshow on March 31.
