BAGUIO CITY (PIA) — The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) is on heightened alert this Holy Week.

Senior Fire Officer 2 Leo Mendoza of the BFP Cordillera said they will strategically station fire trucks and ambulances at the major entry and exit points to the city namely; Marcos Highway, Kennon Road, Naguilian Road, Ambuklao Road, Halsema Highway, and Asin- Nangalisan-San Pascual Road.

He said emergency personnel will also be deployed to assist in case of accidents, fires, or medical emergencies.

“Fire trucks today are more than just fire trucks. Each one is now equipped with an ambulance and a FAST Team, our First Aid and Safety Team ,composed of trained emergency responders ready to respond quickly and effectively,” Mendoza shared.

He also reminded motorists to check the BLOWBAGETS or the Battery, Lights, Oil, Water, Brakes, Air (for tires), Gas, Engine, Tires, and Self.

“Don’t forget the most important part of your journey,  yourself. Get enough rest before traveling, stay hydrated, and be mentally present on the road,” he emphasized.

Residents are also reminded to secure their homes before heading out for vacation.

Ensure liquefied petroleum gas tanks are tightly closed, unplug unnecessary appliances, and for added peace of mind, switch off the main circuit breaker. Inform a trusted neighbor about your plans so they can keep an eye on your property, Mendoza reminded.

In line with its commitment to safety, the BFP will also have a presence in various tourist spots and other national highways.

“Our mission doesn’t stop at the city. We go as far as we need to go. Whether it’s hiking into remote barangays or setting up safety stations in busy tourist areas, we’re committed to keeping everyone safe.” [DEG/Trishabel Cabico-PIA CAR-SLU Intern]
