BFP-Sibugay intensifies fire safety campaign; appeals for support in fire hydrant installation

IPIL, ZAMBOANGA SIBUGAY, July 04 (PIA) – In its effort to safeguard lives and protect valuable property, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in Zamboanga Sibugay is actively engaging in comprehensive fire safety initiatives.

With a focus on fire prevention, emergency response protocols, and community empowerment, the BFP is leading the charge to ensure a fire-safe province. However, they now face a critical challenge in terms of adequate water supply for firefighting, calling on local officials for support in installing fire hydrants.

Under the banner of fire safety, the BFP has implemented a range of proactive strategies. Recognizing the importance of education, the bureau conducts informative seminars and widespread fire safety campaigns. Targeting schools, workplaces, and residential areas, these initiatives raise awareness about fire hazards, proper handling of flammable materials, and the critical role of fire extinguishers. By empowering individuals with expert knowledge, the BFP aims to prevent fire incidents before they occur.

When emergencies arise, a well-coordinated and efficient response is paramount. The BFP in Zamboanga Sibugay has established robust emergency response protocols to handle fire disasters swiftly and effectively. Highly trained firefighters stand ready to respond at a moment’s notice. Regular drills and simulations ensure their preparedness to mitigate damage and save lives in emergency situations.

However, during the weekly radio program of the Philippine Information Agency, BFP revealed that despite their preparedness, the BFP faces a pressing challenge. The water supply in their fire trucks is insufficient to sustain prolonged firefighting operations. Currently, the water in their trucks lasts only around 8 minutes. In light of this, the BFP is urgently calling on local officials for support in installing fire hydrants across the province.

“We have been doing our best to protect lives and property from fires, but the limited water supply hinders our efforts,” expressed Senior Fire Officer (SFO1) Jhony C. Tipoh.

Fire hydrants provide a reliable water source for firefighters, allowing them to control and put off fires more effectively and minimize the risk of extensive damage.

“We are appealing to our local officials to work with us in installing fire hydrants. This vital infrastructure will significantly enhance our firefighting capabilities and ensure a more efficient response during emergencies,” Tipoh added.

Collaboration and partnership play a vital role in the BFP’s mission to create a fire-safe Zamboanga Sibugay. The bureau actively seeks alliances with local government units, non-governmental organizations, and private sectors. By pooling resources, expertise, and knowledge, these collaborations enhance fire prevention and emergency response efforts throughout the province. Together, these stakeholders can work towards the installation of fire hydrants to address the water supply issue and bolster the firefighting capacity of the BFP.

The efforts of the Bureau of Fire Protection in Zamboanga Sibugay serve as a shining example of dedication and professionalism. Their unwavering commitment to fire safety demonstrates the value they place on the well-being of the community. With their proactive approach and collaborative spirit, the BFP continues to make significant strides toward creating a secure and fire-safe environment for all residents of Zamboanga Sibugay. By addressing the urgent need for fire hydrants, local officials can further support the BFP’s mission and contribute to a stronger firefighting infrastructure.

Together, let us ensure the safety of our community and protect it from the devastating effects of fires. (RVC/EDT/JPA/PIA Zamboanga Sibugay)
