BI, DMW integrate systems for faster OFW departure clearances

QUEZON CITY (PIA) — The Bureau of Immigration (BI) and the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) have announced a significant improvement in the processing of departure clearances for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs). The integration of their systems is expected to reduce wait times and improve overall service quality.

The BI has incorporated the Overseas Employment Certificate (OEC) system into its processes, enabling real-time data sharing between the two agencies. This integration streamlines the immigration clearance process for OFWs, making it more efficient.

“The integration of the OEC into our system represents a significant improvement in BI’s modernization efforts,” said BI Commissioner Norman G. Tansingco. “This update will facilitate quicker processing times for OFWs, ensuring that they receive their immigration clearances promptly and efficiently. By enabling real-time data sharing with the DMW, we also aim to ensure a more streamlined process.”

The OEC, commonly referred to as the OFW Pass, serves as an exit clearance and confirms employment abroad for Filipino workers. With the new system, authorities can immediately verify the OEC details of departing OFWs. If no irregularities are found, the clearance will be issued without delay.

Tansingco also noted that the DMW has committed to maintaining personnel at the airports to assist OFWs with any concerns.

“This partnership between the BI and the DMW is aimed at providing a seamless experience for our modern-day heroes. They can expect more improvements to come, targeting OFWs to provide a better experience,” he added.

This initiative reflects the government’s ongoing efforts to enhance the welfare of OFWs, who play a crucial role in the country’s economy.  (AVS/PIA-NCR)
