The BIR, headed by Commissioner Romeo ‘Jun’ D. Lumagui, Jr. celebrated its 120th Anniversary on August 1, 2024.

As of June 2024, BIR has around 15,666 officials and employees nationwide, with 22 Revenue Regions, 131 Revenue District Offices, and five (5) Revenue Data Centers.

BIR’s Four Pillars of Good Governance is focused on excellent taxpayer service, digitalization, integrity in the revenue service, and audit and enforcement.

To keep up with the country’s economic landscape, the bureau has undergone legislative reforms – making the tax system easier and more competent which also paved the way to lower the tax system for low and middle-income earners while expanding the tax base to include previously untaxed sectors.

Among the notable programs of the BIR include the ‘Oplan Kandado,’ Run After Tax Evaders, Run After Fake Transactions, and Raid on Illicit Trade of Excisable Products.

The Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas is a nationwide, simultaneous weekly forum by the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) in cooperation with the PIA-National Capital Region. (JEG/PIA-NCR)
