BJMP holds sportsfest to improve morale, promote over-all being of jail personnel

MANILA, (PIA) — The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) held the opening ceremony of its 14th annual BJMP Sportsfest on Monday, June 24, as part of the agency’s 33rd Founding Anniversary celebration.

The event, themed “Makatao at Makadiyos na Serbisyong Publiko Tungo sa Maunlad, Maayos at Progresibong Pagbabago,” featured a parade of muses and 6 participating cluster teams representing 17 regions nationwide, including the BJMP National Headquarters and the National Jail Management and Penology Training Institute (NJMPTI).

Players took the Oath of Sportsmanship, pledging to respect the rules and play fairly.

The ceremony also included the Lighting of the Torch, which BJMP Chief Jail Director Ruel Rivera said would “further ignite the flame of camaraderie, fairness, discipline, and respect built through sportsmanship” and strengthen teamwork within the organization.

Former Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) player Cyrus “Skyrus” Baguio praised the organizers for promoting sports that will not only provide entertainment but also enhance the physical and mental well-being of BJMP personnel.

Director Rivera stated that the annual sports program aims to foster camaraderie, friendship, and solidarity among the personnel of the jail services.

In the cheer dance competition, Cluster 4, composed of Regions 9, 10, and CARAGA, emerged as the champion, a testament to the hard work and dedication of the BJMP athletes. (JCO/PIA-NCR/with reports from Jail Officer 3 Joefrie Anglo)
