BJMP: No letup in drive vs. contraband in MIMAROPA jail facilities
CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro (PIA) –The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) MIMAROPA reaffirmed its commitment to crack down contrabands in all its 19 manned facilities.
The drive against illegal drugs is in line with the Department of the Interior and Local Government’s (DILG) Buhay’ Ingatan, Droga’y Ayawan (BIDA) program.
BJMP MIMAROPA regional director Clarence Mayangao reported a decline in the number of nuisance contraband that were confiscated from BJMP-manned jail facilities all over the region in the last quarter of the year, said its regional Information Officer Joefrie Anglo.
But Mayangao, who was in Mamburao district jail in Occidental Mindoro recently to lead the preparations for the 2024 National Correctional Consciousness Week (NACOCOW) celebration, said he plans to further reduce, if not put a stop, to the entry of contraband in every jail facility in the region, with the strengthened implementation of their Greyhound operations, Anglo added.
According to him, Mayangao had asked all BJMP personnel to continue to intensify jail security to deter the entry of contrabands as part of the BJMP’s commitment to ensuring a safer and cleaner jail.
Per BJMP MIMAROPA’s report, a series of greyhound operations were conducted in recent months by the joint operatives of the Bureau in the region composed of the Special Tactics and Response (STAR) team, Regional Intelligence Division, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) to combat the entry of contraband and their removal from facilities of the bureau.
Meanwhile, Mayangao explained that NACOCO Week is not only celebrated with more greyhounds but also the conduct of other worthwhile activities like outreach programs, trade fairs of products made by persons deprived of liberty (PDLs), legal and medical missions and job fairs for jail officer recruitment.
The BJMP MIMAROPA is confident that the entry of contrabands will be prevented and their internal cleansing effort will get a boost with the passage of local ordinances on penalizing the sneaking in, using, and carrying of prohibited items in jail and detention centers, Anglo said.
