Bolinao breaks ground for 1st municipal park

DAGUPAN CITY (PIA) – To establish an inclusive space for recreational activities and social interaction, the local government unit (LGU) of Bolinao broke ground for its municipal park at Poblacion Germinal, Bolinao, Pangasinan.

Mary De Guzman, tourism officer of Bolinao, said that the project, with an allocated budget of P25 million from the LGU’s Development Fund and spanning 4,000 square meters, is a much-needed addition to the community.

“Bolinao is the only town left in the province without a municipal park. Our growing population and the increasing number of visitors are the main reasons behind the idea of establishing a park,” De Guzman said.

She added that the park will not only provide a recreational space but will also serve as a hub for social interaction for residents and tourists alike.

Hence, the soon-to-rise park is expected to enhance both the residents’ quality of life and the tourism experience in the area.

Scheduled for completion in 2026, the park will feature a Children’s Park—where kids can play freely, happily, and safely—a Forest Garden, tiered bleacher seating for seating and viewing, a fountain, convenient parking, and a welcoming sign at the drop-off area, perfect for photo opportunities.

“The design of the park is inclusive, ensuring accessibility for persons with disabilities and senior citizens, with ample restroom facilities available for both residents and guests,” De Guzman said.

To ensure the park’s long-term upkeep as well as the safety of the community, De Guzman said the municipality will deploy workers to manage and maintain the area effectively and ensure that the park will be environmentally sustainable.

Hence, the project will provide employment opportunities both during construction and once the park is completed.

Beyond offering a space for relaxation, the park will also be a venue for community activities such as zumba exercise sessions, local events, and cultural gatherings to further contribute to creating a strong sense of community in Bolinao.

Jose Robert Inventor, a resident of Barangay Concordia, shared his enthusiasm for the project.

“This is a milestone that reflects the progress of Bolinao. It is very important to give attention to public spaces where people can relax without having to spend anything. Also, Bolinao is known for attracting a large number of tourists, and this soon-to-rise park will add a new attraction they can enjoy,” he said.

Bolinao, known as the Giant Clams Capital of the Philippines, offers white sand beaches, crystal-clear waterfalls and caves, and the historic Cape Bolinao Lighthouse–a perfect photo spot–for tourists to enjoy.

The construction of Bolinao’s first municipal park is a significant step in building a welcoming space for both residents and visitors, a testament to the town’s commitment to inclusive development and progress. (AMB/JCDR, PIA Pangasinan)
