BONTOC, Mountain Province (PIA) — The capital town of Bontoc kicked off the celebration of its 116th founding anniversary and 20th Am-ammong with a mass and opening of the Agri-Industrial Trade Fair at the municipal grounds on September 9, 2024.
“This is an opportunity for us, for our farmers to showcase their “lako”, and of course, an opportunity for them to sell their goods to the community,” Mayor Jerome B. Tudlong said as he invited the community of Bontoc, and the visitors to buy local products, and support the farmers and small entrepreneurs.
There are various agricultural products, crafts and other local innovations from the four zones of Bontoc(Riverside, Central, Upland, and Albago) such as fresh vegetables, fruits, homemade ginger tea, peanut butter, baked goods, and chili peppers, smoked ‘pinuneg’ and sausage, native chickens among others.
Some products from the neighboring municipalities are also on display.
Department of Agriculture-Cordillera Regional Executive Director Jennilyn M. Dawayan, in her keynote message, said the festival is more than just commemoration of the founding anniversary of the municipality, but it honors the rich traditions and agricultural practices of the community.
“This festival, a cherished celebration deeply rooted in our cultural heritage, not only commemorates the founding of our Municipality but also honors the rich traditions and agricultural practices that have sustained our community’s generations,” she shared.
Dawayan also mentioned that the celebration exemplifies the shared commitment of the DA and the LGU-Bontoc in the promotion agriculture, education and advancement of culture. The trade fair ends on September 16, 2024. (JDP/VJLT, PIA-CAR, Mountain Province)
