Books on nature, wildlife preservation launched in Puerto Princesa City

PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Palawan (PIA) — The Project Fostering Outdoor Reading & Environmental Stewardship Together (FOREST) recently launched its books on the preservation of nature and wildlife found in the protected area of Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park (PPSRNP).

The grand launching was held recently at the wharf of Sitio Sabang, Barangay Cabayugan in Puerto Princesa City led by Project FOREST Manager Keith Anthony S. Fabro in collaboration with PPSRNP Protected Area Park Superintendent Elizabeth Maclang.

Fabro himself wrote all four books, namely “Ang Tatay kong Bantay Gubat” illustrated by Benedict Luis L. Castro; “Takbo, Takbo, Baboy Damo” illustrated by Brian Kenneth C. Yatco; “Ang Mahiwagang Kabakawan ng Cabayugan” illustrated by Mia Duane A. Ventura; and “Si Peewee and Masayahing Pawikan” illustrated by Keith Kendrick B. Pacardo.

At the launching event, there was a turn-over of books, group reading sessions among the youth, and board games led by guests from Project Forest partners.

Meanwhile, Maclang thanked Project FOREST for this initiative, citing that the books that are beautifully illustrated will encourage young people to read, and by reading, they will know how to protect the environment.

With the collaboration of Project FOREST with the Department of Education (DepEd)-Puerto Princesa, schools in barangay Cabayugan will be the beneficiary of the books.

Project FOREST hopes that the students who can read the books will gain knowledge and be able to cascade their learnings to the next generation of young people.

The Project FOREST was established in November 2023 as an environmental conservation and non-government organization. It is a youth-led initiative that educates young people about protecting forests and conserving biodiversity in the PPSRNP.

It is also funded by Forest Foundation Philippines and managed by Ekomunikatib Multimedia, with the support of the Puerto Princesa City government, Department Education-Puerto Princesa City Schools Division and USAID SIBOL.
