MANILA, (PIA) — After more than five months at sea, the BRP Teresa Magbanua has returned to her homeport at the Puerto Princesa Port, having successfully completed her mission of safeguarding the nation’s maritime interests.

The vessel was deployed to Escoda Shoal, where she faced significant challenges, including encirclement by a larger flotilla and harsh weather conditions.

The crew, operating under difficult circumstances and with limited supplies, demonstrated remarkable determination and dedication throughout the mission.

Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, Chairperson of the National Maritime Council, praised the efforts of the crew, highlighting their commitment to the traditions of the Philippine Coast Guard and their homage to the ship’s namesake, a national heroine.

What made this possible is the determination and dedication of the men and women on board, who crewed her in the finest tradition of our Philippine Coast Guard sailors, and in honor of the heroine for whom she was named,” Bersamin said.

With the ship back in port, plans are in place to address the medical needs of the crew, conduct necessary repairs, and provide them with a well-deserved break to reunite with their families.

This repositioning will allow the Magbanua to address the medical needs of some of her crew, undergo needed repairs, and allow her crew to enjoy a well-deserved furlough and reunion with their loved ones,” he added.

Once resupplied and fully repaired, the BRP Teresa Magbanua will be ready to resume its vital role alongside other Philippine Coast Guard and Armed Forces of the Philippines assets in defending the Philippines’ sovereignty.

It can be recalled that the ship sustained damage during the most recent ramming incident involving the China Coast Guard and the Philippine Coast Guard in Sabina / Escoda Shoal on August 31. (JCO/PIA-NCR)
