BSP names 7 outstanding stakeholders in Mindanao

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA)–The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) recognized seven institutions in Mindanao for their exceptional contributions in helping BSP fulfill its mandate to support the economy and improve people’s quality of life.

Each of the seven recognized institutions received a certificate of recognition and a special institutional token from BSP during the Mindanao leg of the 2023 Outstanding BSP Stakeholders Appreciation Ceremony (OBSAC) held at Limketkai Luxe Hotel, Cagayan de Oro City, December 5.

The outstanding BSP stakeholders are the Philippine Science High School-Zamboanga Peninsula Campus, Department of Education-Misamis Oriental Division, National Economic and Development Authority-CARAGA, Ministry of Trade Investment and Tourism-Maguindanao, City Government of Davao, Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Agrarian Reform-BARMM, and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-CARAGA.

BSP Deputy Governor Bernadette Romulo-Puyat underscored the contributions and the vital role of BSP’s stakeholders in upholding essential programs to pursue their mandate of price stability, financial stability, and efficient payment and settlement system.

She said these institutions assisted them in shaping policies that stabilize and stimulate the country’s economy. Moreover, their perspectives have been pivotal in ensuring that BSP decisions are well-informed and impactful.

“With the help of our partners, BSP provided an enabling environment for sustainable and inclusive growth. Together, we are pursuing a state where no Filipino is left behind,” she said.

Monetary Board Member Rosalia De Leon of the BSP, who also attended the ceremony, elaborated on the four categories covered by the OBSAC. These include financial institutions supervised by the BSP that actively work with them to ensure financial stability; partners from national and local governments engaged in specific advocacy alongside the BSP; associations representing various sectors of the financial services industry; and institutions that support the BSP through innovative services and solutions.

In an interview, BSP Mindanao Regional Director Judith Dolot explained that they use various measures to select the outstanding partner for each category. However, the standard criteria are the contributions of the stakeholders to the BSP advocacies and programs to help promote the three pillars of central banking. These efforts are backed by the BSP’s initiatives in financial inclusion and digitalization.

Since 2004, OBSAC has provided BSP a platform to celebrate meaningful partnerships that positively impact the lives of the Filipino people. (APB/PIA-10)
