DIPOLOG CITY (PIA) — Aiming to provide updates on their regional operations, key regional operations, statistics, and digital payment initiatives, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) spearheaded its Media Information Session 2025 in Barangay Minaog, this city.
Mary Anne V. Dionson, area director of BSP’s Ozamiz Branch, welcomed attendees and highlighted the crucial role of media engagement in promoting financial awareness and transparency.
Throughout the session, the BSP emphasized its commitment to strengthening its presence across regions through various initiatives aimed to enhance financial literacy and accessibility in the country.
Miguel Augusto Libre, bank officer, explained the fundamentals of balance of payment statistics, highlighting how this data can help assess the country’s economic health and guide policymaking.
The session also provided insight into monetary statistics, outlining how BSP monitors money supply, inflation, and interest rates to maintain financial stability.
German S. Constantino, deputy director, discussed the digitalization of payments as he underscored BSP’s initiatives to promote cashless transactions and strengthen the country’s financial infrastructure.
Meanwhile, Rodolfo D. Ronquillo II, deputy director, introduced the First Philippine Polymer Banknote Series. He explained the quantities of every piso bill, including its durability, and enhanced security features.
In the latter part of the event, Attorney Alain Bert G. Regis, deputy director, tackled financial security under BSP’s Anti-Fraud and Anti-Scam Awareness (AFASA) program wherein he stressed the importance of protecting Filipinos’ financial transactions from cyber threats and fraud.
In an interview, Ronquillo shared insights on the durability of the polymer peso bill and the proper way to handle it.
“Hindi madaling mapunit ang peso bill, ngunit mas mabuting ingatan pa rin ito upang mapanatili ang kalidad nito,” he stated.
Attorney Regis said “let us protect our financial systems but also, we will protect our financial accounts,” his parting statement before concluding the program.
The Media Information Session 2025 served as a platform for BSP officials to engage with the media and the public, reinforcing transparency and financial education in the country.
