BSU celebrates its 39th Charter Anniversary under new leadership

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet (PIA) — The Benguet State University (BSU), under the leadership of its newly installed president Kenneth Laruan, celebrated its 39th Charter Anniversary  on  January 15 – 17 with the theme, “Advancing knowledge, research, technology and environmental stewardship for a sustainable tomorrow.”

Kicking off the celebration was  a kapihan media forum with Laruan and his team composed of  Vice President for Business Affairs Josel Florentin, VP for Academic Affairs Janet Pablo, VP for Research and Extension Roscinto Lumbres and VP for Administration and Finance Richard Kinnud,  who provided a glimpse of the University’s programs and priorities under the new administration.

With the vision of a leadership that promotes accountability, responsibility and uprightness to accomplish goals and navigate greater opportunities, Laruan assured that they will move onwards propelling BSU to greater heights.

He said they expect questions, some difficulties along the way but he assured that “the door of the Office of the President is  open, you are always welcome to visit us.”

“We will continue what have been started by the previous administration and will push for clarity of the workload policy, faculty members to be a researcher, compliance to quality standards, institutional promotion and continue improving the expertise of the pool of faculty,” Pablo shared.

Aside from human resource development, Laruan also shared that BSU will be working on curriculum and infrastructure development.

The BSU is now into establishing  its College of Medicine, which is eyed to open by the first semester of academic year 2025 – 2026.

Meanwhile, the BSU celebration was highlighted by a Charter Day Program and PRAISE (Program on Awards and Incentives for Service Excellence) Awards on Jan. 15.

Other Charter Anniversary activities  included ecumenical and thanksgiving service and dedication of leaders, exhibits, student organization booths, college, community/extension activities or exhibits and open houses, blood-letting, fun run, fun bike and Christmas Light Retreat.

The Charter anniversary commemorates the conversion of the then Mountain State Agriculture College into Benguet State University on January 12, 1986 by virtue of Presidential Decree 2010.

Laruan  is the 8th president of BSU  effective November 26, 2024 until November 25, 2028.
