Bukidnon police step up security amid rising unrest in tribal land dispute

QUEZON, Bukidnon (PIA) — The Bukidnon Police Provincial Office (BUKPPO) is continuously monitoring the disputed land between the Manobo-Pulangiyon tribe and Kianteg Development Corporation (KDC) in Quezon, Bukidnon.

Last week, October 21, tensions flared when the tribe reportedly threatened to forcibly enter KDC’s guarded gates, prompting BUKPPO to prepare for a potential standoff.

To ensure safety, BUKPPO has deployed local security forces to manage the situation and prevent escalation. Supported by government agencies, they aim to maintain peace and order as the legal proceedings continue.

Provincial Director Jovit Lontac Culaway announced that BUKPPO personnel are strategically stationed around the area to deter incidents, reinforcing public confidence in their commitment to uphold order during this sensitive time.

“Our role is to protect the community and ensure the rule of law is respected,” Culaway said.

BUKPPO, in partnership with local government units and agencies, urges all stakeholders to participate in dialogue to support a smooth judicial process and emphasizes the importance of de-escalation and neutrality.

As KDC awaits the legal outcome, BUKPPO vigilantly monitors the area, urging both parties to respect the legal process and avoid actions that could incite conflict.

Culaway assures the public that their forces will remain on the ground as long as needed to maintain peace.

Their dedication to law and order throughout Bukidnon remains resolute, leaving the final decision to the courts.

During this sensitive period, BUKPPO encourages the community to stay informed and avoid spreading misinformation that could heighten tensions. Their priority is clear: enforcing the law while safeguarding the peace and security of the community. (JMC/PIA-10/Bukidnon)
