CITY OF ILAGAN, Isabela (PIA) – To promote cashless transactions in the local marketplaces of Cabagan, Isabela, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) and the Local Government Unit (LGU) recently launched the PalengQR Ph Plus program in the municipality.
The program is an initiative of BSP aimed at building a robust digital payments ecosystem among market vendors, small shopkeepers, and tricycle operators.
The PalengQR Ph Plus program was initiated in partnership with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), the Department of Information and Communication Technology (DICT), and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).
BSP Area Director Eva Lynne Marcos said the program leverages the existing QR Ph initiative urging local governments across the country to advocate for the widespread acceptance of digital payments within their jurisdictions.
“The PalengQR Ph Plus program aims to digitalize payments to business establishments and of commuters on local transportation,” she said.
Marcos lauded the efforts of the LGU Cabagan and commended the officials for their proactive implementation of the PalengQR Ph Plus program.
She said the importance of this initiative will surely benefit the vendors and consumers.
Cabagan Mayor Christopher A. Mamauag expressed his utmost appreciation to the BSP and its partner agencies for their support and guidance in the implementation of the program.
He assured the local government’s commitment to digitalization and pledged additional incentives for business establishments that will fully integrate digital payments into their operations.
“This initiative will not only ease payment processes but also position Cabagan at the forefront of technological advancement in the province,” Mamauag said.
Meanwhile, DTI Isabela OIC Provincial Director Ramil D. Garcia said the implementation of the program in the town will boost economic growth and modernization.
Garcia also reaffirmed the DTI’s support for such initiatives that promote ease of doing business and consumer welfare.
“The launch of the PalengQR Ph Plus program in Cabagan marks a pivotal step in the town’s journey toward digital transformation, setting a benchmark for other municipalities in Isabela and beyond,” Garcia said. (OTB/MGE/PIA Isabela)
