CAFGUs complete basic military training in Isabela

CITY OF ILAGAN, Isabela (PIA) – A total of 350 new members of the Citizen Armed Force Geographical Unit (CAFGU) completed Basic Military Training at the 5th Infantry Division, Philippine Army Training School, located at Camp Melchor Dela Cruz in Gamu, Isabela.

Major General Gulliver L. Señirez, 5ID commander, emphasized during the graduation exercises the crucial role of the CAFGU in supporting integrated territorial defense, humanitarian assistance, disaster response, and internal security alongside regular army personnel.

“The Citizen Armed Forces Geographical Unit will now be enlisted under the Philippine Army’s supervision to bolster our efforts in territorial defense, disaster response, and humanitarian assistance,” Señirez said.

The new CAFGUs, who were part of Basic Military Training Classes 12 to 17 for 2024, underwent rigorous training that focused on military tactics, disaster response operations, and addressing challenges posed by natural calamities such as typhoons and flooding.

The recruits hailed from various provinces within the operational area of the 5th Infantry Division.

Gulliver also said the milestone highlights the continued strengthening of the CAFGU’s role in national defense and disaster preparedness. (OTB/MGE/PIA Isabela)
