TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan (PIA)—Buguey town in Cagayan, declared by the Department of Agriculture as the “Crab Capital of North Luzon,” is set to expand its market internationally following the successful exhibit of its renowned mangrove crabs at the Hong Kong Food Expo Pro 2024.
Mayor Licerio Millare Antiporda said that Buguey’s participation in the expo has opened new doors to showcase the town’s rich aquatic resources as a Hong Kong-based company expressed strong interest in importing the crabs.
“This interest from an international company is a testament to the exceptional quality of our local crabs and highlights Buguey’s potential in the global market,” Antiporda said.
“This opportunity is expected to further solidify Buguey’s reputation as a key player in the region’s seafood industry,” he added.
Buguey is home to North Luzon’s first state-of-the-art mangrove crab hatchery, a facility expected to enhance the production of premium crabs for the export market. (OTB/GVB/PIA Region 2)
