TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan (PIA) – – The Cagayan Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) assured that there are enough food and non-food items in the warehouses of the provincial government in preparation for the possible effects of Severe Tropical Storm ‘Carina’ (international name: Gaemi).
Bonifacio Cuarteros, social welfare officer IV and chief, Center Management, PSWDO, said the provincial government’s logistic hub has 3,000 cavans of rice and a stockpile of food and non-food items ready for preposition in areas that will be affected by the typhoon.
“In case there are areas that need augmentation for food and non-food items, we will immediately deploy them; however, if we need to preposition these items at our Task Force Lingkod Cagayan Stations, which are under our advance command in the province, we will do that,” said Cuarteros.
Aside from food items such as various canned goods currently in the PGC warehouse, bidding is also underway for additional canned goods in case the supply of basic commodities is needed in preparation for the impact of hydrometeorological events or hazards.
As of 11 a.m. today, July 22, the eastern portion of mainland Cagayan, which includes the municipalities of Santa Ana, Gattaran, Baggao, Peñablanca, Lal-lo, and Gonzaga, as well as the eastern portion of the Babuyan Islands (Camiguin Is., Babuyan Is.), is under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal Number 1.
The northeastern portion of Isabela, particularly the coastal municipalities of Divilacan, Palanan, and Maconacon, is also placed under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal Number 1. (OTB/MDCT/PIA Cagayan)
