TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan (PIA) — The Cagayan Valley region has been placed on red alert as it is currently affected by a series of tropical cyclones.
According to the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council Region 2, 46 local government units have declared a suspension of classes due to Typhoon Wind Signal No. 1 being raised in mainland Cagayan Valley.
“As of today, 24 towns in Cagayan, nine in Isabela, and 13 in Nueva Vizcaya have suspended classes,” Sunshine Asuncion, information officer, reported.
She also mentioned that 331 families, comprising 755 individuals, have been affected in the region, particularly in six barangays of Nueva Vizcaya.
Asuncion also reported that five roads and four bridges are not passable due to flooding.
“The provincial government of Nueva Vizcaya has provided a total of P86,400 in assistance to affected and displaced families,” she said.
The council, she added, is still assessing the impact of Typhoon ‘Ferdie’, which also affected the region last Sunday.
According to the latest weather bulletin, Romeo Ganal of the PAGASA Northern Luzon Bureau stated that another weather disturbance, internationally named ‘Pulasan’, is expected to pass by the eastern portion of the Cagayan Valley Region.
“Although there is a slim chance that ‘Pulasan’ will significantly impact our region, we urge everyone to continue taking preventive measures. The no-sail, no-fishing, and no-swimming policies remain in effect,” Ganal advised.
The council also said all response assets and rescue groups are on standby for the conduct of response operations anytime needed. (OTB/PIA Region 2)
