TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan (PIA) — Cagayan is set to welcome over 20,000 participants in the much-anticipated National Private Schools Athletic Association (PRISAA) Games to be staged from April 5 to April 11, 2025 in Tuguegarao City.
Esther Susan N. Perez-Mari, National Private School Athletic Association (PRISAA) and University of Cagayan Valley president, emphasized the extensive preparations undertaken to ensure the success of the PRISAA Games 2025.
“Mahigit isang taon po na paghahanda ito para masiguro, if not the best, one of the best hostings. Unang preparasyon na ginawa namin ay of course to attend the previous national games para meron kaming pang-benchmark. May collaborations with the provincial government, Tuguegarao LGU, at syempre, sa national level ng PRISAA,” she said.
This year’s tournament, she said, is expected to be the largest and most exciting edition, bringing together 20,000 student-athletes, coaches, and officials from 400 private schools nationwide.
To ensure the safety and efficiency of the 10-day event, comprehensive security and emergency response measures have been put in place. The Incident Management Team (IMT) of both the Cagayan Provincial Government and Tuguegarao City Government will oversee security operations, with 50 police officers deployed across venues, ensuring immediate assistance and crowd control.
Under the theme “Sustaining the Country’s Inclusive Grassroots Sports Program as a Pathway to the Olympics,” this year’s PRISAA Games highlights the role of grassroots sports development in producing future world-class Filipino athletes
Provincial Administrator Ma. Rosario Mamba-Villaflor and Tuguegarao City Mayor Maila Ting-Que said that hosting PRISAA 2025 is a major achievement for Cagayan and Tuguegarao, positioning them as capable hosts for large-scale sporting events.
They encouraged athletes to compete with integrity, dedication, and excellence, embodying the true essence of PRISAA. At the same time, they called on local residents to extend their hospitality and warm welcome to the visiting delegations from different regions.
With all preparations in place, PRISAA 2025 is set to not only highlight athletic excellence but also bring economic benefits through increased business opportunities, tourism, and local commerce.
Trade fairs and food stalls will create opportunities for small businesses and entrepreneurs, while the arrival of athletes, coaches, and visitors is expected to stimulate growth in tourism, hospitality, and the retail sector in Tuguegarao and its surrounding areas.
Meanwhile, to further enhance the experience for participants, the province and city will offer free transportation for athletes and officials, ensuring safe and hassle-free travel to and from the venues. (OTB/MFJ/PIA region 2)
