Calapan gov’t free maternity facility benefits 31 mothers

CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro (PIA) — The local government unit (LGU) of Calapan City has provided essential maternal care services to 31 mothers through its Basic Emergency Maternal Obstetric and Newborn Care Center (BEMONC).

The facility offers comprehensive maternal care services at no cost, and is “a vital part of the city’s broader initiative to ensure accessible healthcare for all,” said  Calapan City Mayor Marilou Morillo in a Facebook post.

Morillo also highlighted the importance of such services, particularly for women and children, underscoring the city’s commitment to enhance public health and support expectant mothers.

LGU Calapan said that the BEMONC has played a significant role in providing timely and critical care to expectant mothers, contributing to the well-being of both mothers and newborns in the community.

Morillo also expressed her administration’s commitment to expanding these services in the future, aiming to further improve maternal and child health outcomes across the city.

For those who want to avail of the services of the facility, the would-be mother should be in a “low risk” category, at least 19 years of age and not older than 34 years old, with no history of miscarriage, no history of previous cesarean section delivery, and no medical condition.

The facility is open from Monday to Sunday and can serve patients round the clock. The free maternity facility is located at the new City Health Building, City Hall Compound, Brgy. Guinobatan, Calapan City. (JJGS/PIA Oriental Mindoro)
