Camiguin capital activates 911 hotline for faster emergency response

CAMIGUIN (PIA) — The Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office of Mambajao announced the activation of its 911 hotline under Municipal Order No. 2024-025, providing quick and efficient emergency services for medical, disaster, law enforcement and traffic-related issues.

“Ongoing na atong system karon sa pag-upgrade sa interface. Tanan caller nato mapadali na atong pag-responde once mutawag sila, makita na nato ang location,” said John Edrev Waminal, DRRM officer. (The process of upgrading the interface of the system is ongoing. Once a caller contacts us, we can respond more quickly as we will be able to see their location.)

The new 911 hotline replaces the previous number, making it easier for residents to remember. Waminal said the upgraded system also features automated communication, enabling responders to make calls while en route to the scene. It also ensures data privacy for callers.

Waminal reminded the public to use the hotline responsibly and avoid prank calls, which disrupt operations and delay response times.

He also emphasized the importance of providing accurate and relevant information during calls, including the condition of the individual involved and personal details.

“Hangyo lang namo sa DRRMO nga dili dulaan [ang 911] kay wala ta nakahibalo kung naay nanginahanglan lain pa,” Waminal said. (We, the DRRMO, asks the public not to make prank calls to [911] because we never know someone else might need help.)

The public is encouraged to follow the official Mambajao DRRMO Facebook page for updates on the hotline and emergency services.

Currently, the 911 hotline is available for users of Smart and TNT networks. Others can contact emergency services at 0956-165-7930 while the DRRMO is working to expand service coverage.  (HSGA/PIA-10/Camiguin)
