MAMBAJAO, Camiguin (PIA) — The Local Council for the Protection of Children (LCPC) in Mambajao, with support from the Regional Committee for the Welfare of Children (RCWC)-10 Secretariat, developed a Local Development Plan and Investment Program for Children (LDPC-LIPC) on March 4-5.
The initiative aims to strengthen child-focused policies and ensure the allocation of resources to critical areas affecting children’s health and safety. The session gathered LCPC members and child representatives, underscoring the importance of inclusive planning where children’s voices are considered in decision-making.
By integrating the perspectives of children, Lyka Shayne Montaño, municipal social welfare officer, said the local government’s goal is to create a plan that directly addresses the needs of youth in the community.
She also outlined the priorities for ensuring the well-being of children. “For survival, we aim for improved health, nutrition and WASH services for all. For development, we want increased opportunities for all children to learn and reach their potential. For protection, we target strengthened child protection policies and systems to protect children from abuse and violence. Lastly, the local government seeks a strengthened enabling environment for children’s participation,” she said.
At the end of the session, the LCPC drafted the LDPC-LIPC and established a roadmap to finalize and implement the plan. This effort is expected to align investments with the town’s priorities and create a more supportive environment for children’s growth and development.
“This initiative is a huge step toward building a brighter future for the children of Mambajao. We are proud to support the local government in making children’s rights and welfare a top priority,” said Raquel Ranara, municipal disaster risk reduction and management officer.
Ranara said this strengthens Mambajao’s commitment to children’s rights through clear policies and smart investments for a safer community. (RTP/PIA-10/Camiguin)
