Camiguin General Hospital addresses negligence claims

CAMIGUIN (PIA) — Camiguin General Hospital (CGH) has issued a statement clarifying an incident on March 17, following online allegations of patient neglect and denial of care.

“It has always been the hospital’s policy that all patients must first undergo a check-up by our doctors prior to availing our services to make sure that all treatments align with the patient’s actual needs,” said CGH Medical Center Chief Dr. Gretchen Cabalang.

Patients are required to go through triage and the Outpatient Department (OPD) for initial assessment and record-keeping as part of standard procedure.

Cabalang explained that a delay in treatment was due to a scheduled shift change, not negligence. She also noted that nine other patients with similar requests from external organizations were properly accommodated that day.

“Additionally, we would like to address a video circulating online alleging that a patient was neglected and denied care. We deny this claim since, based on our records, the patient in question was already accommodated prior to when the video was posted and had actually been scheduled for an operation,” Cabalang said.

She reminded the public to direct concerns and complaints through the Public Assistance and Complaints Desk Organization (PACDO) located in the hospital lobby.

“We encourage the public to direct their concerns through this channel rather than resorting to social media, which can unfairly tarnish the reputation of our healthcare workers and our institution, who have always provided service to all,” Cabalang added.
