Camiguin hosts 2nd MSME summit, showcases local businesses

CAMIGUIN (PIA) — Showcasing locally-made products, the provincial government of Camiguin, in collaboration with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)-10, held the 2nd Provincial Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Summit on September 26 at the New Capitol Building in Mambajao, Camiguin.

The event brought together various business owners and entrepreneurs who set up booths, highlighting the province’s rich culture and diverse entrepreneurial spirit.

“Kailangan nato makabuo og programs para matabangan nato ato mga small business owners sa atong probinsya,” said Gov. Xavier Jesus Romualdo, stressing the need for support mechanisms for MSMEs in the province.

(We need to create programs to help our small business owners in our province.)

He emphasized the importance of creating programs to support small businesses, particularly in rural areas like Camiguin. The governor also recounted how the idea for the summit came about, focusing on the need to engage local entrepreneurs and the youth.

“Atong gusto i-target jud mga batan-on, mga young entrepreneurs, and of course, mga students, para ma-inspire sila na naa tanan opportunities sa Camiguin,” he added.

(We especially want to target the youth, young entrepreneurs, and students to inspire them and let them know that opportunities abound in Camiguin.)

The summit also saw the active participation of Mambajao Mayor Yñigo Jesus Romualdo, who expressed his support for the local business community. He highlighted the commitment of the local government units (LGUs) in Camiguin to fostering a thriving and collaborative business environment.

“To all the entrepreneurs here today—whether you are just starting out or have been in business for decades—know that LGU Mambajao, the provincial government of Camiguin, and all LGUs in Camiguin stand with you,” said Mayor Romualdo. “We are committed to fostering a business environment that promotes innovation and collaboration.”

The event allowed local businesses to connect, share ideas, and find ways to grow. After the success of the second MSME Summit, the provincial government aims to keep supporting small businesses, which are important to the local economy. (RTP/PIA-10/Camiguin)
