GUINSILIBAN, Camiguin (PIA) — The Bureau of Fire Protection in partnership with the municipal government of Guinsukuban held a groundbreaking ceremony for the town’s first fire station on Feb. 7 at Barangay South Poblacion.
Guinsiliban Mayor Helenio Abecia emphasized the importance of the project for the community, noting that after years of effort, the town is finally establishing a fire station.
“Gipangandoy gyud ni dili lang sa usa ka tao kundi sa kadaghanan na gyud nga Guinsilibanon. Kay sa dugay sa panahon, karon pa gyud mi naka-establisar og usa ka fire station. So nahitabo kini siya,” he said.
(This has long been a dream, not just for one person but for all Guinsiliban residents. After many years, we are finally able to establish a fire station.)
He added that the municipal government acquired land for the facility, which will also house the Philippine National Police, a super health center and other government offices.
Abecia said the fire station would improve the town’s emergency response capacity, ensuring the safety of its residents.
Residents, including Jaime De la Cruz Jr., welcomed the new fire station. He emphasized the station can enhance the town’s safety and development.
“Ang pagtukod sa fire station diri sa South Poblacion Guinsiliban, maoy usa sa mga magpamatuod nga kitang mga Guinsilibanon andam sa bisan unsa nga mga kalamidad apil na ang pagresponde sa mga aksidente mahitungod sa sunog,” he said.
(The construction of the fire station here in South Poblacion, Guinsiliban, is proof that we, Guinsiliban residents, are prepared for any disaster, including fire-related emergencies.)
De la Cruz hopes that the people of Guinsiliban would appreciate the project and those who made it possible.
The ceremony was attended by BFP-10 Regional Director FCSupt. Alma Gran Abacahin, along with personnel from BFP regional and provincial offices. Also present were Lawyer Web Bajenio, who represented Gov. Xavier Jesus Romualdo; Abecia; Vice Mayor Eric Elvis Roxas; members of the 21st Municipal Council; Guinsiliban Municipal Police Station; Philippine Coast Guard Guinsiliban Substation; department heads; barangay officials and other distinguished guests.
