CAMIGUIN (PIA) — Camiguin Water Company (CWC) recently conducted a series of successful information drives during barangay assemblies across Camiguin.
“The sessions aimed to educate residents on water conservation, understanding water tariffs, and calculating water consumption to help manage their water bills effectively,” said CWC General Manager Jonathan Sarsonas.
The information sessions provided practical tips for households on how to conserve water. CWC shared simple yet effective ways to reduce water usage, such as fixing leaking faucets, using water efficiently in the kitchen and laundry, and minimizing water use while bathing or watering plants. CWC reminded residents to regularly check and repair leaks in faucets and pipelines to prevent water wastage.
CWC also provided a helpful guide with diagrams to explain how to convert water consumption. This information helped residents better understand their water usage.
For example, 1 cubic meter is equivalent to 5 drums, 5 cubic meters are equivalent to 25 drums, and 10 cubic meters are equivalent to 50 drums, with each drum holding 200 liters. The goal was to make it easier for residents to estimate their water consumption and corresponding bills.

In addition, CWC explained the current water tariff rates and demonstrated sample bill computations based on different consumption levels. This part of the session aimed to give residents a clear understanding of how their water usage translates to their monthly bills.
The information drive also included an open forum where residents had the opportunity to ask questions and discuss concerns about water usage, conservation, and billing practices.
Ariel Balbutin, the commercial operations unit head of Camiguin Water, led the open forum and addressed a range of topics raised by attendees.
The barangay assemblies, held across various barangays in Camiguin, saw an impressive turnout, with an estimated 600 residents attending sessions throughout the year. These assemblies took place in Barangay Bugang, Bacnit, Agoho, Bug-ong, Kuguita, and Catohugan, with participation ranging from 60 to 110 attendees per session.
Various local officials, including barangay captains and councils, school principals, representatives from the Bureau of Fire Protection, the Philippine National Police, CWC, and the municipal treasurer’s office, attended the assemblies.
CWC’s information drives are part of the company’s ongoing commitment to raising awareness about water conservation and providing essential information to the public. With the continued support of the local government and active participation from residents, CWC aims to promote responsible water use and ensure a sustainable water supply for all.
