CAMIGUIN (PIA) — Camiguin Water Company (CWC) is reinforcing its commitment to delivering affordable, sustainable, and reliable water service as the province faces increasing challenges in water supply. Aging infrastructure, rising demand, and environmental changes are straining the existing system, making modernization a critical priority.

CWC General Manager Jonathan Sarsonas emphasized that ensuring fair and transparent pricing remains a top priority as the company works to future-proof Camiguin’s water supply. He highlighted that without decisive action, the province could experience supply shortages, increased water wastage, and higher operational costs in the coming years.

“The reality is that water systems across the country, including Camiguin’s, were built decades ago and were never designed to support the needs of a growing population,” Sarsonas said. “If we don’t act now, we risk facing supply disruptions and rising costs. Our goal is to modernize infrastructure, expand coverage, and implement long-term solutions to prevent a water crisis before it happens.”

CWC has ramped up efforts to upgrade pipelines and treatment facilities to reduce water loss and improve distribution efficiency. Many of the existing pipes suffer from leaks and deterioration, leading to unnecessary wastage. Rehabilitating these systems will ensure that more water reaches households while keeping costs manageable for consumers.

Expanding service to remote and underserved areas is another key focus, ensuring that every resident, regardless of location, has access to clean and steady water. The company is also integrating advanced water management technology to detect leaks early, track usage patterns, and optimize supply in real time, preventing inefficiencies that could lead to shortages.

Beyond infrastructure improvements, CWC is working closely with local government units and stakeholders to promote sustainable water use. Conservation programs are being introduced to encourage responsible consumption, and the company is engaging with the public through awareness campaigns that highlight the importance of safeguarding Camiguin’s water resources.

Sarsonas reassured the public that while these modernization efforts require significant investment, CWC remains committed to keeping water rates fair and reasonable. Every peso collected goes directly into improving the system, ensuring that consumers receive the best possible service without unnecessary price increases.

“We are taking every step necessary to avoid a water shortage and secure a sustainable water future for Camiguin,” Sarsonas added. “Investing in these improvements today means we can continue providing safe, reliable, and fairly priced water for years to come.”

Residents are encouraged to practice water conservation and report any leaks or service concerns to CWC to help maintain a steady supply. For updates or inquiries, they may visit the CWC office or follow its official social media pages.
