QUEZON CITY (PIA) — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has issued a reminder to all candidates and political parties that campaigning is strictly prohibited on April 17 and 18, 2025, which fall on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday, respectively.
In accordance with Comelec Resolution No. 10999, all forms of election campaigning or partisan political activities during these two Holy Week holidays are not allowed. The resolution reiterates that any campaign-related activity outside the official campaign period, particularly on dates specifically set as prohibited, is considered an election offense.
Comelec emphasized that violators of this rule may be charged under Sections 63 and 264 of the Omnibus Election Code, which carry penalties including fines, imprisonment, and possible disqualification from holding public office.
The prohibition is part of Comelec’s efforts to uphold the sanctity of the observance of Holy Week and to maintain fairness and order throughout the election season.
The official campaign period for the May 12, 2025 National and Local Elections remains in effect, but candidates are reminded to strictly observe the guidelines and respect prohibited dates as mandated by law. (AVS/PIA-NCR)
