Capiz declares dengue outbreak as cases rise

ROXAS CITY, Capiz (PIA) — The Provincial Health Board declares the province under the state of dengue outbreak to mobilize resources, prioritize response efforts, and enhance public awareness during its emergency meeting, Aug. 14.

Based on the latest data from the Provincial Health Office (PHO), as of Aug. 10, the cases rose to 1,386, which is 208 percent higher compared to the same timeline last year.

Gov. Fredenil Castro, during the Provincial Health Board meeting, stated that with the dengue outbreak in the province, the provincial government will assign a fumigation team per cluster in every municipality in the province to conduct fogging in the community, especially in schools.

Department of Education (DepEd) Roxas City Schools Division Superintendent (SDS) Dr. Roel Bermejo expressed his appreciation to the provincial government and the PHO for their help and cooperation in the current dengue outbreak.

Bermejo also said that prior to the opening of the school year, they had already issued a Division Memorandum Order on the prevention of dengue cases in schools and had already launched Project Safe, securing a safe and friendly environment in schools.

Further, the Department of Interior and the Local Government (DILG) provincial director Cheryl Tacda noted that the barangays in the province have weekly clean-up activities monitored by the DILG.

“But now, we should be focused on the potential dengue breeding sites,” Tacda added.

The governor also noted that with the support of everybody, the province will win against dengue but this needs work, commitment, and support.

“Our victory against the dengue-carrying mosquitoes is certain, no doubt we will win against dengue. But this cannot be fought by only one person, this will be fought collectively by all stakeholders and citizens of our province,” Castro added. (AGP/PLF/PIA Capiz)
