ROXAS CITY, Capiz (PIA) — Farmers and fisherfolk in Capiz were thankful to the “KADIWA ng Pangulo” program, during the Labor Day celebration at the Capiz Provincial Park in Roxas City.
The program, launched by President Ferdinand R. Marcos in 2023, is designed to bridge the gap between farmers and consumers by establishing Kadiwa stores which will sell fresh produce at prices that are fair both to farmers and consumers.
It realizes the president’s commitment to help farmers and fisherfolk, as well as promote food security in the country.
“Salamat sa nag-organize ng KADIWA kasi malaki ang tulong sa aming mga mahihirap, sa aming mga vendor kasi marami kaming naibenta ngayong araw,” said Intungcan Fisherfolks Association member Amelita Dolmido of Brgy. Intungcan in Pontevedra town.
(We thank the organizers of KADIWA because it is a big help for the poor and vendors like us who were able to market our harvest.)
The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR)-assisted fisherfolk association was able to sell several kilograms of fresh seafood and bundles of vegetables during the marketing event.
Another group of exhibitors, the Timpas Women’s Association, was also grateful for the KADIWA because the group was able to sell their agricultural products and vegetables in the day-long street market.
The other exhibitors of KADIWA included the Indigenous People Community in Brgy. Tag-ao in Dumarao town, Chandy’s Integrated Farm in Panitan town, Department of Trade and Industry – assisted Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Department of Agriculture and Provincial Agriculturist Office – assisted farmers/producers, Department of Social Welfare and Development – Sustainable Livelihood Program – assisted beneficiaries, Provincial Tourism and Cultural Affairs Office – assisted beneficiaries and other BFAR- assisted fisherfolk associations.
