Capiz health official calls for household mobilization vs dengue

ROXAS CITY, Capiz (PIA) — The Provincial Health Office reported 10 areas with clustering of dengue cases due to three or more dengue cases in certain locations for four consecutive morbidity weeks.

Based on the Provincial Dengue Case Bulletin, these areas are in Barangays Poblacion Ilawod in Dumarao town, Poblacion Tabuc in Mambusao town, Poblacion Ilaya in Panitan town, Bailan and Tacas in Pontevedra town, Lonoy in Sapian town, Mianay and Mangoso in Sigma town and Cagay as well as Lanot in Roxas City.

The province has recorded 612 dengue cases that include one death from January 1 to July 6 this year.

The figure is 90.65 percent higher compared to the same period in 2023.

Provincial Health Officer Ramon Alex T. Nolasco during a Kapihan episode of the Capiz Information Center of the Philippine Information Agency and Capiz Provincial Government Communications Group said that even during the El Niño, there were dengue cases and now with rainy season and upcoming La Niña, the local government units and the barangays need to effort on the clean up activities to search and destroy mosquitoes breeding grounds.

“The support of every household is important. We must not depend only on our LGUs and barangays as we really need the clean up drive especially with the coming opening of classes,” Nolasco stressed.

All the 17 LGUs in the province shared the total number of dengue cases during the first half of 2024.

Based on PHO data, the age group between 10 to 19 years is the most affected population in the province by the mosquito-borne disease.

So far, an eight-month-old baby and a 91-year old elderly were the youngest and oldest dengue patients, respectively. (EAD-AAL/PIA Capiz)
