ROXAS CITY, Capiz (PIA) — The Provincial Health Office has recorded 151 dengue cases in the province from Jan. 1 to 25 this year.
The figure is 24.79 percent higher compared to 121 cases of the same period in 2024.
“We need to sustain the 5S strategy and enhance the cooperation of the local government units,” said Provincial Health Officer Dr. Ramon Alex Nolasco, during the Provincial Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging and Re-Emerging Infectious Diseases (PIATF – MERID) meeting.
The 5S strategy encourages communities to search and destroy breeding sites, employ self-protection measures, seek early consultation, support fogging in hotspot areas, and sustain adequate hydration.
Based on data, the 151 cases are shared by 16 of the 17 LGUs in the province.
Cuartero town remains no dengue cases as of the PHO’s Morbidity Week 4 report.
The state of calamity in the province due to dengue outbreak was lifted late last year after the provincial government has lowered down dengue cases due to fogging, misting and use of larvicide on stagnant waters to kill dengue-carrying mosquitos provincewide.
Gov. Fredenil Castro also led the provincewide Lamok (mosquito) Buster campaign to increase public awareness and discipline in promoting cleanliness in the surrounding as a preventive and control measure against the increase of dengue cases.
The local health authorities also lauded the active surveillance, real-time reporting of cases that helped in curbing the mosquito-borne disease. (AGP/AAL/PIA Capiz/Cover photo courtesy of the CPGCG)
