Capiz rolls out mobile library to bring literacy to schools, communities

ROXAS CITY, Capiz (PIA) — The Capiz Provincial Library (CPL) and the Book Nook—Capiz visited various schools and communities in the province through “DALI, MABASA KITA: A Mobile Library Program.”

CPL-in-charge Renarey Aguihap mentioned that the mobile library was launched in March 2021 in the provincial park, and eventually coordinated with the local government units to have a wider reach.

The National Book Development Board (NBDB) launched the Book Nook last 2021 and collaborated with the mobile library to boost proficiency levels for basic reading and writing of the students.

Additionally, this initiative aims to reach far-flung villages and schools that lack access to libraries.

“Ang purpose sang mobile library is makadtoan namon ang mga sa kasuluk-sulokan sang probinsya, ang mga indigenous people, kag ang nagligad nabista namon ang mga students sang ALS sa Mambusao,” Aguihap said.

(The purpose of the mobile library is to reach remote areas in the province and the Indigenous people community. Recently, we visited the students of Alternative Learning System in Mambusao.)

According to her, the mobile library is open to all communities and LGUs that are willing to welcome them.

Moreover, one of their targets is to have some readings to the Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL).

“Ang mobile library wala sang fix nga schedule, hindi monthly, bali kung may event lang nga pwede kami makasulod sa mga schools,” the provincial library-in-charge emphasized.

(The mobile library has no definite schedule, it is not monthly, and we can only do it when there’s an event where we’re allowed to participate in schools.)

In addition, Aguihap noted that they already visited Don Jose Acevedo Integrated School last Nov. 11, which caters to 261 elementary and senior high students as part of the National Children’s Month Celebration, Filipino Values Month, and Library and Information Services Month.

Aguihap also added that this month, they will visit four other schools in the province as part of the month-long celebrations. (AGP/ PIA Capiz)
