Task Force Pagdumdum distribution of food packs to fisherfolks
ROXAS CITY, Capiz (PIA) – The Capiz provincial government, through its Task Force Pagdumdum, has distributed food packs to 7,000 fisherfolk from Roxas City and coastal towns in the province.
Provincial government Public Information Officer lawyer Luvim Amores said that 1,000 fisherfolk in Roxas City and the towns of Ivisan, Sapian, Panay, Pontevedra, President Roxas, and Pilar received food packs during the two-day simultaneous distribution on October 30 and 31.
Amores clarified that the food packs were not assistance for residents affected by Severe Tropical Storm Kristine but are part of the provincial government’s regular program for fisherfolk during the last quarter of the year.
“From October to December, we are aware that the sea tends to be rough, so our fishermen can hardly have their livelihood. As part of our regular program, we distribute food packs to aid our fisherfolk in the coastal areas,” Amores said.
Ivisan town vice mayor Jose Romeo Yap expressed gratitude for the food packs provided to 1,000 fisherfolk beneficiaries in Ivisan.
“I hope these food packs can help offer relief since the terrestrial rains continue, and the fishermen cannot go out to fish because of the rough seas,” he added.
Resurrection Apaitan Jr., a beneficiary from Barangay Balaring in Ivisan town, shared that his family has relied solely on fishing for generations and is struggling to make ends meet due to the rough seas.
“If we will be given little for our everyday needs, [it would help] because right now, I have no income, as the weather is still bad and there is a storm,” he said. (AGP/PLF/PIA Capiz)
