CapSU sets Mental Health Day for students

ROXAS CITY, Capiz (PIA) – Capiz State University on Nov. 6 observed a day-long mental health break dubbed “Hamutaway Day” inorder to unload the students from any school-related activities during the day.

CAPSU President Dr. Efren L. Linan signed the university’s Memo Order No. 2024-11-3139.

“On that day, it is solely devoted to the renewal of CAPSU students’ physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health and a chance to connect and collaborate with their support group for some assistance, especially in crises and challenging times,” said a CapSU Public Information Office announcement posted on social media.

The memorandum also directs faculty members not to give any school-related activities a day before Hamutaway Day.

“During the day, we encourage our students to spend the day in a way that best supports their personal renewal and health,” said CapSU Office of the President OIC Dr. Mary Ann B. Martelino.

She is also the university vice-president for External Affairs and Linkages.

However, the memorandum exempts the CapSU Mambusao Satellite College in Mambusao town as it had already scheduled a mental health break prior to the directive.

The announcement received a positive reaction from the students.

“This will give me time to rest and spend time with my family,” said Bachelor of Science in Education major in English sophomore Helena Bless Ohenda.

Ohenda’s classmate, Riczl Elegarle, said the time will be an opportunity for a time with herself after struggling examinations in the past weeks.
