SAGADA, Mountain Province (PIA) — Residents of Mountain Province once again showed the power of community and collective effort for a greater purpose in the 8th Kataguan Drive for Life.
Spearheaded by the Maximo B. Dalog Foundation Inc.(MDFI), in partnership with various government agencies, and private groups and individuals, this caravan for a cause held on December 10, 2023 raised a total of P3.424 million to benefit 205 members of the Kataguan Dialysis Patients’ Organization Inc. (KDPOI).
Congressman Maximo Y. Dalog Jr. expressed gratitude to all participants, contributors, and sponsors during the culminating activity and turnover ceremony held at Payag-eo, Suyo, Sagada.
“Salasalamat kendakayo amin, adi mensucceed na nu maid kayo, isunga nan menpasalamatak et dakayo. Nan MDFI et esa lang ay instrumento, esa lang na ay vehicle tapno matulungan tako nan nay kakailyan ay mendidialysis[Thank you very much to all of you, the activity would not have succeeded without you. The MDFI is just an instrument, a vehicle to help our province mates who are undergoing dialysis],” he said.
Dalog shared that the caravan aims to help defray the cost of medical treatment and other expenses of the beneficiaries. It is also aims to raise awareness on Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), and how to prevent it.
“We do this Kataguan Drive for Life for dialysis patients to ease the burden of the members of Kataguan Dialysis Patients’ Organization Inc., because the expenses are really huge and it can drain savings,” Dalog said.
Rosario Sagmayao, KDPOI president and one of the beneficiaries, is gratefulness for all the support and assistance they received from the participants.
“Tunggal tawen nga madanun ti kastoy nga umay kami makijoin ket makita mi iti suporta ti taga-Montanyosa nga kakailyan babaen iti presensya yu, ket haan nga magawidan ti rikna ket agtedted ti luwa. Ket dakami kuma ti paggapwan na ti dagiyay pasasalamat kadakayo,” [Every year with this activity, we always see the support of the people of Mountain Province with your presence. We cannot explain our emotions and could not help but cry. We are grateful to all of you], he said.
Now on its eight year, the Kataguan Drive for Life continues to promote the spirit of empathy and support within society, and provides hope for the patients.
The caravan featured drive caravan, biking, walking and running events which participants pay for tickets. There were also taebo exercise, orientation on kidney diseases, and tree planting.
The bike caravan started at 4:00am, followed by the drive caravan at 7:00am at Eyeb Grounds in Bontoc, proceeded to Bagnen, Bauko, and culminating at the Blue Soil drop-off point in Sagada for the program and turnover of the event’s proceed to the KDPOI.
The beneficiaries also received hygiene kits from Unilever Philippines.
