Catanduanes introduces new batch of med, law scholars

VIRAC, Catanduanes  (PIA) – In a noble effort to give financially limited students a chance to realize their dreams of becoming lawyers and medical doctors, the provincial government of Catanduanes introduced a fresh batch of recipients of its scholarship program last Nov. 22 at the Capitol lobby.

Scholarship grantees Dwight Martin A. Camacho , Maria Alyssa Torres , Jerome T. Taopo, Arjim G. Ruiz, Fritze Anne P. Cristobal, Jona Mae F. Camacho, Ariane Joyce T. Añonuevo, Georgette V. Vitalicio and Nikko Franco B. Templonuevo were formally presented by Catanduanes Governor Joseph C. Cua.

According to Cua, the primary motivating factor for coming up with the Catanduanes Medicine and Law Scholarship (CMLS) is to “make medical and law education accessible to everybody who deserved them and wanted them.”

Aside from free tuition fees, the CMLS program also guarantees the provision of required books as well as allowances. Every year since 2021, up to 10 qualified applicants would be granted with these perks and benefits under this taxpayer-funded program.

The medicine and law scholars will study in state universities and private schools in the Bicol region.

Camacho, the lone scholar of medicine, urged those who have aspirations and dreams in pursuing a degree in medicine to apply for the scholarship, saying they can help answer the healthcare needs of the province.

“This scholarship is a really big help for us to be a medical doctor someday,” Camacho added.

On the other hand, law student Torres said she felt blessed and privileged to be a part of the CMLS program since she has acknowledged that she wouldn’t have been able to pursue a degree in medicine if it wasn’t for the scholarship grant.

“I am grateful for the opportunity given to me to pursue my dreams and serve the people of Catanduanes in the future,” she said. (PIA 5/ Catanduanes)
