CDA calls on media practitioners to register as cooperative

CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro (PIA) — Media practitioners are invited by the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) MIMAROPA to register as a cooperative, simplifying the process for forming formal partnerships within the media sector.

During the Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas of the Philippine Information Agency on December 3, CDA MIMAROPA Regional Director Alberto A. Sabarias said that this will provide media groups with an accessible and structured way to collaborate and access valuable resources.

Sabarias emphasized that media groups are already welcome to register as cooperatives without needing to find new members as they are already part of an existing organization.

Sabarias also clarified that registering as a cooperative requires a clear business purpose.

“Dapat po hindi kayo magpaparehistro as samahan, [ang] kinakailangan ay mayroon kayong business na papasukan dahil hindi po namin ina-allow na magpaparehistro ng walang business dahil after 2 years po idi-dissolve din po. So, dapat po mayroon kayong naiisip sa ngayon na business na pwede niyong pasukan,” he said.

He suggested that media practitioners should start with training programs, noting that some members of the media may need financial assistance, allowing smaller cooperatives to benefit from lending services.

Sabarias said that this will empower media professionals in the MIMAROPA region by providing them with a structured path for collaboration and financial stability, encouraging growth and cooperation within the media community. (ALG/PIA MIMAROPA)
