CDA NCR chief eyes systematized hookup of metro coops, stakeholders

QUEZON CITY, (PIA) — The Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) National Capital Region aims to institutionalize the active collaboration of all cooperatives and stakeholders in Metro Manila.

During the weekly Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas held Tuesday at the Philippine Information Agency in Quezon City, CDA NCR Regional Director Pedro T. Defensor Jr. expressed his goal of collaborating the 1,350 cooperatives in the National Capital Region.

There is power in collaboration,” Defensor said, while highlighting the crucial role cooperatives play in connecting and providing services to their members.

Ang gusto namin matahi silang tatlo (government, private corporations, residential-based cooperatives). Ang end-user at the end of the day are the resident-based cooperatives. So, lahat ng need iikot lamang within the cooperative,” he added. (We want to connect all three of them. The end-user, at the end of the day, are the resident-based cooperatives. So, all needs will only be circulated within the cooperative.)

Defensor also said they envision to make cooperatives viable and sustainable as he also revealed some of the top cooperatives that are based in Metro Manila and encouraged cooperatives to outline actionable and sustainable steps to achieving their goals.

The CDA is the agency that promotes the viability and growth of cooperatives as instruents of equity, social justice and sustainable economic development.(JEG/PIA-NCR)
